Festival up for gong

IT’S become the Southern Downs most iconic annual event and in many ways has put Warwick on the tourism map.

Now the Jumpers and Jazz in July Festival has been nominated in The Safeguard Events and Tourism Award for the 2013 Queensland Regional Achievement & Community Awards.
This annual awards program is presented by Channel 7 Queensland and provides an opportunity for state-wide recognition to groups and individuals providing social and economic benefits to regional communities. With fantastic prizes, the Awards reward the hard working people of our remote and regional areas in Queensland.
Established in 2004, the Jumpers and Jazz in July Festival was inspired by the art community of Warwick and their desire to reclaim and personalise the local streets with textile art hence the ‘tree jumper’ was born. It was the process of covering the local trees in a variety of mediums including crochet, felting, weaving and knitting to great living pieces of arts.
Since then, a 10-day festival has been pioneered by WarwickTourism and Events and the festival has grown to incorporate more than 120 tree artworks, 80 events, 20 textile art exhibitions, markets, a vintage car rally, workshops and live jazz performances.
The Jumpers and Jazz in July Festival has grown each year and in 2013 alone has been estimated to have injected over $2 million in to the local economy.
The festival prides itself on its community support and the recognition and stimulus it gives to local community groups.
This year the winner of the Safeguard Events and Tourism Award will win a $2500 thanks to the Commonwealth Bank.
Winners will be announced at a Gala Presentation to be held at the Toowoomba Show Grounds on 9 November 2013.
The Awards are proudly supported by The Queensland Country Life and Angove Family Wine Makers.
