Stop grain sale: Walton

By JONATHON HOWARD

THE National Party will authorise the sale of the eastern states grain handling and multi-port facility, Graincorp, to the giant multi-national American company Archer Daniels, says Rowell Walton, Katter Party candidate for Maranoa.
It follows the holding up of the consent of the foreign investment review board by the Labor Government in the lead-up to the election.
Mr Walton said there was no doubt in his mind that the Labor Government would authorise the sale if it won government, but the more realistic result for the upcoming election was for a Liberal National Coalition to form government.
“The fact the Nationals are not able to confirm the Coalition will not authorise the sale tells me that they will roll over once again to their partners the Liberal Party, and flog off our port and grain handling system to a foreign multi-national.
“Giving up our ownership and control of our ports is tantamount to treason and should be resisted at all cost,” he said.
It will be the same as the sale of Telstra by Barnaby Joyce who promised when elected not to sell it.
“Let the National Party in Maranoa come out and say we will not allow the Liberals to trample on our people and say they will walk away from the Coalition if the Liberals try to sell these assets – then we can see their true colours,” Mr Walton said.
