Safety fix needed: Springborg

MEMBER for Southern Downs, Lawrence Springborg, has extended his condolences to the families of two young Toowoomba residents who lost their lives during a tragic car accident at the Eight Mile intersection on Monday.

Mr Springborg said he had previously met with the family of 20-year-old Jaydon Adams and felt deeply saddened for their loss.
Mr Springborg said now was not the time to pass judgement as to who was in the wrong, but he has raised concern with the configuration of the Eight Mile intersection labelling it a “spaghetti maze”.
“It’s important not to jump to conclusions as investigations continue to determine to cause of this horrific accident,” he said.
“However, I have always had concerns for the configuration of the intersection and the recent redevelopment of the intersection failed to make any real changes.”
Mr Springborg said he himself had narrowly avoided a collision at the intersection and he fears others have had similar near misses.
“I am not a traffic engineer, but I feel there has to be a better way to ensure the safety of motorists at this intersection.”
