Council reacts to Killarney water

SOUTHERN Downs Regional Council has moved to assure Killarney residents that the water supply is perfectly safe.
Several Killarney residents have called for water testing after a mysterious black soot-like substance periodically flowed from their taps.
Council’s Manager of Water and Wastewater, Tendekai Mapeza, said council had determined the substance to be safe.
He said the process to determine the water safety was carried out through a combination of field assessments and observations by very experienced SDRC staff.
This followed recent past performance and testing results which had indicated “no adverse effects of the water supplied from the Killarney water treatment plant” and “subsequent confirmation through microbiological and chemical testing by an independent Queensland Government laboratory”.
“The cutting and analysis of a sample of water supply pipe near the incident premises indicated no build-up of any material in the water supply system.”
