THE work being done on a rabbit control project undertaken by land managers in the Storm King/ Eukey region will be showcased at a two-day workshop this month.

Participants will not only learn about non-mechanical control techniques but also how to measure production and biodiversity improvements to help them plan their control into the future.
Stanthorpe Landcare Co-ordinator Harley West said the workshop on Friday, 28 June and Saturday 29 June was open to all interested community members.
“We will discuss the fundamentals of trapping and fumigating, including how to set a cage trap, correct use of fumigants, and how and when to use temporary fencing,” Mr West said.
“On Saturday we will demonstrate how to measure the improvement in pasture and wildlife, setting up photo points, looking at pasture monitoring and simple monitoring techniques for people to use to ensure that their hard work of rabbit control is not undone by rabbits returning unnoticed,” Mr West said.
Mr West said the Queensland Murray-Darling Committee and Stanthorpe Landcare had been working with land managers, contractors and the Southern Downs Regional Council on the rabbit control project with support from the Eukey Landholders Rabbit Research and Control Group.
The project is supported by Queensland Murray-Darling Committee and Stanthorpe Landcare through funding from the Australian Government’s Caring for our Country.
Will Dobie from the Darling Downs Moreton Rabbit Board will also be presenting at the workshops, and Julia Telford from Engage and Create Consulting will facilitate.
The workshop begins on Friday, 28 June from 2.30 – 5.30pm at 601 Eukey Road.
