FIREFIGHTERS from across the Southern Downs were recently recognised for their hard work and commitment to protecting lives during a formal ceremony on Saturday, 22 June.

Assistant Commissioner Tom Dawson presented medals for long service and outstanding efforts in national emergencies.
National Medal recipients for 15 years’ service included Warwick senior firefighter Mark Sullivan. First clasp for 25 years’ service went to Inspector Hemmo de Vries, Warwick Auxiliary Captain Ian Niebling, and Warwick permanent firefighter Cr Glyn Rees.
Second clasp for 35 years’ service went to Warwick Station Officer John Hamilton.
The Diligent and Ethical Service Medal for 10 years’ service went to Clifton Auxiliary firefighter Peter Auld, Clifton Auxiliary firefighter Robert Collins, Clifton Auxiliary firefighter David Egan, Clifton Auxiliary Lieutenant Paul McKenzie, Warwick senior firefighter Michael Coombes, Warwick senior firefighter Brett Farrell, Warwick Auxiliary Lieutenant Chris Gilchrist, Warwick Auxiliary Lieutenant Gavin Taylor, Killarney Auxiliary Lieutenant (retired) Pat Brosnan.
The distinguished National Emergency Medal was awarded to Warwick Command Inspector Hemmo de Vries and Auxiliary Lieutenant Gavin Taylor.
