THE Tenterfield Lions Club’s first Cracker Night is set to become an iconic annual event after more than 1300 residents attended on Saturday, 15 June.
Crowds gathered on the Tenterfield Showgrounds to enjoy live music, witness impressive fire drum entries and watch a spectacular fireworks display. Tenterfield Lions Club secretary Rod Stanford said polished performances were made by Sir Henry Parkes Primary School Choir and talented high school musicians.
“Brisbane band Sweatshop was fantastic and their renditions of much loved covers were appreciated by all,” he said.
“We received 19 entries in the fire drum competition which was a very good result to introduce the concept.”
First place went to D Hines with his Hot Rod, second to A and G Kucks with their Magic Tree, and third place to Townes Contracting with their Tonka truck.
Mr Stanford said an overwhelming number of visitors meant the demand for food was high with some shortages reported.
“We will be ready next year,” he said.
“Only positive feedback has been received with only a dash of constructive criticism.”
Volunteers from the Lions Club, Salvation Army, Tenterfield SES, local RFS brigades, local businesses and residents banded together to ensure the event was well received by the community.
