Help celebrate!

CAPTION: Stanthorpe residents are getting ready for this year’s NAIDOC week.

THE Granite Belt’s newly-formed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Reference Group will hold a series of workshops and celebrations for this year’s NAIDOC week from 7-14 July.
The week will start off with a community painting in the piazza which will be donated to the Southern Downs Regional Council.
Throughout the week there will be basket weaving with Tenterfield artist Ronella Jerome, art workshops for children with local artist Tully De Vries and a film night with a short film provided by Black Screen from the National Film Archives.
There will also be traditional dance workshops with local dancer Texas De Vries which will be held in the supper room of the civic centre on the 9, 10 and 11 July for school children aged over 10 years.
These dance workshops will culminate with a performance on 12 July during the “sharing of our culture” community evening, also to be held at the civic centre. This community evening will also feature music, guest speakers, bush tucker nibbles and a display of local indigenous art works.
The Granite Belt Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Reference Group wishes to invite all of the community to attend the activities on offer.
This event will be a drug and alcohol-free.
Anyone who would like to be involved or any local indigenous artists who would like to display their works can contact Maria De Vries on 0478 573 208.
