Cattle quality mixed with lift in supply

By JONATHON HOWARD

THERE was a small lift in supply and overall quality was mixed with the standard of cows not up to the previous week’s level at the Warwick cattle yards on Tuesday 18 June.
A good panel of buyers were present with representatives covering all classes.
The better end of the vealer heifers and heavy weight yearling steers to feed improved in price. However the remaining categories of young cattle struggled to hold firm and in a number of places lost ground.
Export slaughter lines could not maintain the improved rates of the previous sale with cows losing 4c to 8c/kg.
Calves to restockers averaged 172c and made to 190.2c/kg.
Vealer steers to feed and restockers averaged in the early 170c/kg range with sales to 178.2c/kg. Vealer heifers to feed averaged 147c and slaughter classes 155c, with the occasional sale to local butchers at 194.2c/kg.
Lightweight yearling steers to feed and restockers averaged 161c and 164c/kg respectively.
Medium and heavy weights to feed generally sold in the early to mid 160c/kg range with some heavyweights making to 166.2c/kg.
Medium weight yearling heifers to feed average 144c while poorer quality lines averaged close to 120c/kg.
Heavy grown steers averaged 155c and bullocks sold to 163.2c to average 160c/kg. Medium weight plain cows averaged 73c, and 2 scores 94c, while 3 scores averaged 106c/kg.
Good heavy cows generally sold around 117c with the occasional pen to 128.2c/kg. Heavy bulls made to 145.6c/kg.
