Unwanted animal numbers rise

CAPTION: Warwick Animal Welfare Association President Lorraine Goldspink has teamed up with the Free Times to feature “pet of the week”.

A SHARP rise in the number of adult cats and kittens being surrendered to the Warwick Animal Welfare Association has prompted a call for new caring homes.
Association president Lorraine Goldspink said the shelter had five kittens, four adult cats and one dog seeking homes.
“There’s been a sudden rise in the number of people surrendering their adult cats … and kittens. We’re desperate to find them new homes,” she said.
Mrs Goldspink said that although animal adoption required a cost of up to $120 – it ensured each animal was micro chipped and desexed in compliance with legislation.
“It’s important to have the cats desexed to avoid an unwanted litter which we’re seeing surrendered more often,” she said.
The Southern Free Times has teamed up with Warwick Animal Welfare Association and will feature a “pet of the week” section to allow these animals an even greater chance.
