Gonski calculator bonus

CAPTION: Queensland Teachers Union president Kevin Bates has welcomed a school-by-school Gonski calculation report.

THE Queensland Teachers’ Union has welcomed today’s release of school-by-school calculations for Gonski funding in Queensland schools, saying it confirms the urgent need for the Queensland Premier to sign up the much-needed reforms.
“Parents and teachers across Queensland will be looking closely for their school on the list, thinking about what these additional resources could mean for their school, their classroom, their child,” QTU President Kevin Bates said.
“As a teacher, I would say the significance of this additional investment for every state school reported on Tuesday in The Courier Mail cannot be overstated. It would mean more individual attention for students, and additional support for kids who need it most, wherever they go to school,” Mr Bates said.
But Mr Bates said these extra resources would only flow to Queensland schools if Premier Newman put the politics aside and committed to Gonski.
“Right now, Queensland teachers are being asked to make impossible choices (about which of their students will miss out on the extra support they need) because there simply are not enough resources to go around.”
“The additional Gonski funds would start to turn that around, ensuring every Queensland school student was getting the support they needed to achieve their best. We know that investment brings results; it’s time for the Premier to put the politics aside and deliver Gonski for all Queensland’s kids,” Mr Bates said.
“The last thing we want to see is Queensland kids miss out on this investment in their education and their future. Every politician needs to get behind Gonski,” Mr Bates said.
“Queenslanders looking at today’s list of extra Gonski funds for schools need to let every member of the Newman Government know these reforms are too important to pass up,” Mr Bates concluded.
