Cool change expected tonight

By Jeremy Sollars

Relief from the heat is in sight – but not until tonight.
Warwick residents can look forward to a cool change expected to flow across the region tonight, Sunday 14 January and a return, at least for a few days, to average summer temperatures.
Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) forecaster Lauren Murphy told the Free Times this morning a south-easterly cool stream had already hit the Gold Coast and would travel across the range “late evening”, somewhere between 8pm and 9pm Sunday.
Whenever it is it won’t come quickly enough for Warwick and surrounding residents, who’ve been sweltering for days in what BOM describes as a “low intensity heatwave”, with well above average summer maximums and minimums.
Today’s top in Warwick is expected to reach 34 degrees, with the top temperature recorded for Saturday coming in at 38.4 degrees at 2pm yesterday.
From tomorrow, Monday, through to Wednesday daytime temperatures are forecast to reach 31 degrees for Warwick, with overnight minimums dropping back to around 14 degrees.
For Stanthorpe it’s a slightly cooler scenario, with a top of 30 expected today and daytime tops of around 27 degrees expected from Monday through to Wednesday.
Hotter than average conditions are then expected to return for Warwick on Thursday, with a top of 35 degrees forecast at this stage.
Virtually zero chance of rain is predicted this week for the Southern Downs and Granite Belt.
Residents are reminded to keep well hydrated in the heat and to keep an eye on the very young and the elderly, along with pets.
