Bolivia Hill upgrade goes ahead

THE notorious Bolivia Hill section of the New England Highway near Tenterfield is to be upgraded.
The Federal Government has confirmed its contribution of $80 million for the realignment of a three-kilometre section of the highway.
Earlier this year the NSW government announced its $20 million share of the funding for the total project.
“It’s very pleasing that drivers, particularly of heavy vehicles, will now see this upgrade go ahead,” Member for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall said.
“I commend Member for New England Barnaby Joyce for ensuring the funding will be made available to undertake this important upgrade to the notoriously dangerous stretch of highway,” Mr Marshall said.
He said the NSW Government allocated $1 million in this year’s budget to continue the detailed planning for the realignment works at Bolivia Hill.
“As part of this planning, NSW Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) recently conducted a public exhibition and consultation meeting and the planning work is progressing well to ensure construction can get underway as soon as possible.”
In late January, RMS will publicly display its preferred option for the Bolivia Hill realignment and the community will be invited to comment.
“Today’s funding confirmation is a great outcome for the people of Northern Tablelands and New England and shows what can be done when state and federal governments work together,” Mr Marshall said.
