Classic cars under scrutiny

OWNERS of classic and historic vehicles have been warned about transporting students to school formals.
The warning comes after Department of Transport and Main Roads officers conducted vehicle inspections on the night of 11 October, during the Warwick State High School formal.
The operation was carried out “to ensure compliance with public transport legislation, primarily the Transport Operations (Passenger Transport) Act 1994”, a departmental statement said.
“Vehicles were only inspected after students had been dropped off.”
Inspectors issued two vehicle defect notices and fined a third person who was improperly using motor dealer’s plates on an unregistered vehicle.
Transport inspectors also issued a number of verbal cautions to owners of vehicles that were registered on ‘club’ plates for classic or vintage motor vehicles, who were improperly using their vehicles on the night while not on club events.
“Over recent years, many owners of classic and historic vehicles have provided pseudo-limousine services at school formals,” the statement said.
“To provide limousine style transport services without a limousine licence is an offence under the Transport Operations (Passenger Transport) Act 1994.”
