Spring showing for The Winter’s Tale

IS IT A Tragedy? Romance? Comedy? – critics don’t know quite how The Winter’s Tale fits into Shakespeare’s total output, naming it among his “problem plays”.
It is a sweeping tale of jealousy, regret and redemption with an intimacy unseen in any other of Shakespeare’s works.
The Winter’s Tale is the centrepiece of the Shakespeare in the Park Festival at the University of Southern Queensland in Toowoomba.
Featuring a cast of emerging actors from the University’s Bachelor of Creative Arts, The Winter’s Tale will be performed on the festival mainstage on the university’s front lawn on 11, 12, 17, 19 and 20 October.
Publicity for the production says this new reinterpretation draws on the style and glamour of a 1950s Mad Men world, so it will be interesting to see how the students stage that iconic stage direction “Exit, pursued by a bear”.
Tickets are available through the USQ Artsworx Box Office on 4631 1111, online or at the gate.
