Big screen upgrade

TENTERFIELD’s School of Arts cinema is about to get a better picture.
A grant of $32,604 will replace the existing 35mm projection equipment with a new 2D digitised projection system.
Member for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall said the upgrade would ensure the School of Arts continues to screen mainstream and art-house films, as well as introducing the screening of live events such as opera and national shows.
“It’s an excellent outcome for the cinema as the community relies on the School of Arts building as a hub for many cultural activities and social events,” he said.
“If the cinema stayed with the old 35mm projection system it would eventually lose the capacity to show new release films as the movie industry is moving away from the traditional format and into the digital age,” Mr Marshall said.
Tenterfield Shire Council’s business and cultural development officer Harry Bolton said the upgrade was vital to keep the cinema viable.
“The cinema provides the School of Arts with a form of income which supplements other community activities,” he said.
“This is great news for our community as it keeps the facility alive and gives people a reason to keep coming.”
