One out of the box

By Casey O'Connor

Warwick golf pro Sam Eaves only qualified for the New Zealand a few days before the event. He went into the tournament hoping to play an even four rounds of golf and heading in to the final he was well pleased to be at seven under.

His tournament was about to get a ‘hole’ lot better. On the par three 13th Eaves played the shot of the day and perhaps the tournament landing a hole in one.

The prize for the hole in one at the 13th – a Hyundai Kona Electric to be donated to a charity of the public’s choice. Following the public vote, the car will be presented to the New Zealand Mental Health Foundation.

Of course Eaves did not leave empty handed – he picked up a cheque for $50,000 for his ace.

It capped off a good performance for our local Pro. He finished in a tie for 14th place; 10 under par and more than a little shell shocked.

Undoubtedly the performance of the weekend for a Southern Downs Sportsman.

Eaves was back at the Warwick Pro Shop this week unsure of when he will play his next tournament and processing a whirl wind four days in the land of the long white cloud.

Despite his success Eaves is back in the Warwick Pro Shop this week.
