The Toowoomba Clydesdale’s reclaimed the 47th Battalion trophy after an outstanding performance at the 47th Battalion Carnival at the Sunshine Coast on the weekend.

The Clydesdale’s side which included seven players from Wattles and the Cowboys opened the carnival with a 48-0 win over Burnett and followed that win with a 26-0 win over Bundaberg.

Warwick’s Ben Sullivan and Wattles Matt Duggan and Ty Gardner all played a big role in these wins.

In a much-anticipated final, the Clydesdales played the holders of the trophy, the Sunshine Coast Falcons who narrowly beat the Clydesdales in the 2018 final.

From the kick off the Clydesdales put their opponents under pressure and opened the scoring when Gatton flyer Billy Jackwitz intercepted a ball and ran 95 metres to score.

The Clydesdales held a 14-0 lead at half time after starving the Falcons of the ball and forcing them into a raft of frustrating errors.

The second half saw more of the same. Cowboy’s Hooker Ben Sullivan had a hand in another four pointer and the boot of Duggan kicked the Clydesdales further ahead.

The final score a 20-6 win for the Clydesdales and the silverware returns to Toowoomba.

Ben Sullivan was named Player of the Final and along with Matt Duggan has been selected in the Central Crows team to play in the State Divisional Championships.

This weekend the TRL regular fixtures recommence. the cowboys are away to Goondiwindi; Wattles host Dalby and in the C Grade competition Stanthorpe and Texas both have byes.
