By Casey O'Connor

Members and visitors celebrated Australia Day in style at the Stanthorpe Golf Club playing a medley 4BBB Stableford sponsored by the RSL golfers. Saturday was also the David Townsend Memorial, a day when the club acknowledges the late David Townsend, popular golfer and former Patron.

Honours went to Lyle Bryant and Barry Hughes with a balanced score of 24 points on each nine for a total of 48 points.

Ken Hinze and Rod Werner also returned 48 points but settled for the runner up prize.

The was a strong Australia Day theme on the course but none more so than with Tom and Trish Fittock who won Best Decorated Cart for their “Home Among The Gum Trees.”

Madeline Jarman did wonders with the Australian flag and was judged the Best Dressed Lady while Peter Gibney would have would have looked at home on the beach, at the cricket or up a flag pole. Prepared for all occasions he was judged Best Dressed Male.-

February is already on the doorstep and Saturday’s competition is for the February monthly medal and putting competition sponsored by club member Wes Smith and Dixon Homes. Tee off is from 11.30 am and the time sheet is on the board at the club.
