Day three in any golf tournament is renowned as moving day and Danny Folkers did just that last Sunday in the Stanthorpe Golf championships.  Folkers carded a score of 83 to move into a three-way tie with Mark McCosker and Tom Page on 263 strokes after three rounds in B Grade.  Danny’s score was good enough to win the day’s competition which was generously sponsored by Geoff Patti.
Luke Reardon in the meantime went about the business of extending his lead.  He now holds a 15-shot lead over chaser Jason Lawer.  Reardon on 216 is even par after three rounds and the opposition simply cannot keep pace with his flawless golf.
Dylan Barraclough the current C Grade and Junior Champion had an excellent Sunday card of 75 and is lurking in third place overall and runner-up in the Sunday competition.
Defending club champion David Reeves is in fourth spot in A Grade with an aggregate score of 234 but has a big task ahead of him if he is to chase down Reardon – but 18 behind may prove too hard a task especially when the target is a scratch golfer.
In the C Grade there was little movement with Ron Hansen maintaining his three-shot lead on 278 from Viv Thouard and Sam Dowie.  Greg Yap is eight shots off the lead but anything can happen in golf and he should not be written off just yet.
Saturday’s competition was sponsored by Peter Hines and individual winners on Saturday were John Haynes with 69 on a countback from John Spiller and Richard Reardon.
The ladies’ competition was won by Lorraine Evans with a great score of 67, five shots clear of Christine Welstead.
The ladies competition is also close but as the ladies can drop their worst round it is not easy to predict the outcome. Julie Page, Sandra Ellis and Dale Lawer have a best two score of 183 so the heat is on. Christine Welstead and Lynette Ludlow look destined to fight out B Grade and Lorraine Evans, Jean Gilmour and Margie Locke are in contention for C Grade.
The final round of the championships will be played this Saturday and we wish all golfers good luck.
