Souths into final

cricket season with the target in the major semi final revised because of rain in the South’s and Wanderers game.
Souths were the beneficiaries of the revised target and despite suffering the worst possible start to their innings with the dismissal of Pat Cameron in the first over with the score on 1 they managed to get the revised 115 required runs.
Souths had earlier won the toss and asked Wanderers’ to bat first.  The soft CF White wicket proved difficult to bat on and runs were hard to come by for the Wanderers batsmen who struggled in the conditions to be all-out in the 39th over for 143.  Hayden Lanza (37) and Jamie Carnell (30) showed determination on a pitch displaying uneven bounce. Nick Donges added a valuable 26 to help Wanderers to what appeared to be a defendable target in the conditions.  Pat Toohey (3/15) and Scott Williams (3/25) were the main wicket takers on a day when conditions suited the bowlers.
South’s chase got off to a poor start.  However Tom Cameron took to the bowling, belting five fours and a six on his way to a top score of 40 runs laying the platform for his team’s success. South’s batsmen also found scoring difficult in the conditions. The only other batsmen to trouble the scorers were Mal Whitton with 27 and Clinton Einam with 12.with eight wickets down South’s overhauled the revised total of115.
Lyndon McGrath (2/22) and Jamie Carnell (3/22) did a great job proving difficult for the South’s batsmen to handle.
The win puts South’s through to the final in two weeks.  Wanderer’s now meet Valley’s in this weekend’s sudden game.  Again the forecast does not look good for cricket –fingers crossed the rain does not decide the fate of the preliminary finalists.
