Arrest, charges following lengthy police negotiation

A man with whom police negotiated for several hours during an incident on King Street in Warwick yesterday has been taken into custody and charged with a number of offences.

As reported yesterday – Thursday 1 October – the man was on the roof of a premises on King Street in the vicinity of Oak Avenue throughout the afternoon and evening. Police yesterday said he was not considered a risk to public safety and while the area was cordoned off it was not declared a high-risk scene.

The man was arrested last night after negotiations with police ended and is due to appear in court later today. It is understood he has been charged with threatening violence and assault of police and a number of separate offences unrelated to yesterday’s incident. At this stage he remains in custody pending his court appearance.
