The Warwick State Emergency Service (SES) has received new specialised rescue equipment from the Queensland Fire and Emergency Service, funded under the Energising QLD Grant Program.
This specialised rescue equipment consists of a Ferno ‘Mule II’ litter wheel with handles and a Ferno Split Basket Stretcher, and is designed to assist in the rescue and extraction of injured persons in remote and inhospitable terrain.
A Southern Downs Regional Council spokeswoman said the Warwick SES “previously fundraised to purchase their first rescue stretcher and it has already been widely used to assist Queensland Ambulance Service in recovery of injured people”.
“The new additions to the inventory will allow for rescues in multiple areas or of multiple people,” the spokeswoman said.
Mayor Vic Pennisi was on site today – Tuesday 9 June – to witness the handover of equipment.
“I’m really pleased to see the SES are receiving additional and updated resources,” Cr Pennisi said.
“These resources make rescues quicker, safer, and smoother for both the SES and the people being rescued.
“Our emergency services all work together to support each other and the SES takes this commitment seriously.
“The State Emergency Service is always prepared to assist in any situation, even non-emergency events.
“The SES are often requested by agencies such as the Queensland Ambulance Service to provide specialised equipment, such as these rescue stretchers, to help move patients in tricky circumstances.
“I know there are some other really positive things happening within Warwick and Stanthorpe SES and I’m keen to see these beneficial changes unfold.”
The State Emergency Service, which is run entirely by volunteers, provides a wide number of services to the region. These rescue services cover the whole of Southern Downs and are in place to care for both residents and visitors. People travelling to our area can rest assured that the SES looking out for them have the most up to date equipment at the ready.
