Enjoy a meal and some sporting banter at The Condy…

The friendly staff at Warwick''s Condamine Sports Club are welcoming diners back in-house, albeit groups of up to 10 for now...

The ever-upbeat crew at Warwick’s Condamine Sports Club are looking forward to the re-commencement this week of the NRL 2020 season – and like many local businesses are doing their utmost to adapt to the challenges posed by COVID-19.

Manger Stephen Domjahn and his staff have been trialling a set-menu dining option for groups following the first easing of restrictions on dining venues, allowing up to 10 customers at a time.

As a community-based club proceeds from ‘The Condy’ go back to local sporting organisations who are likewise in the same boat with normality turned upside down.

Not least of which is the Toowoomba Rugby League (TRL) which this week announced the cancellation of the 2020 season, to the disappointment of the Warwick Cowboys and their legion of local fans.

The good news is you can enjoy a terrific dining experience at The Condy with a group of up to 10 of your closest family and friends.

“Obviously like any venue people aren’t currently able to just come in and sit down at the bar and enjoy a drink,” Stephen said.

“So we’ve come up with a set-menu option, where it’s $50 per person and that includes your drinks.

“We’re doing three 50-minute dining times through the week and at the weekend and we just want to be able to offer people a really good meal at an affordable price and for them to have an enjoyable time.

“As time moves on and the (COVID-19) restrictions ease some more we want people to come back in larger groups but it’s just one stage at a time.”

Stephen said diners currently need to record their details as part of the state government’s requirements for dining venues but it’s a small inconvenience to enjoy their choice of three menu options in The Condy’s dining room.

“We’ve been doing takeaways like many other venues, that side of things has been quite busy and it’s meant at least we’ve been able to keep the doors open and have some income coming in,” Stephen said.

“We’ve also been doing pre-cooked frozen meals that people can take home and heat up at their convenience and those have proven pretty popular, particularly with some of the elderly people.

“It’s a challenging time all round for us and for everyone else but we’re confident we’ll get through this and things will gradually get back to normal.

“This club is an icon in the community and we just want to welcome people in through the doors in whatever way we can for the time being.”

The Hawker Road Function Centre at the Warwick Golf Club is currently closed to function groups but golfers can still enjoy a bite to eat and a cold beverage or two with their meal.
