Polling booths open until 6pm tonight

Voting in the 2020 Southern Downs Regional election is open today, Saturday 28 March, until 6pm.

More than half of voters in the region had already cast their votes prior to today using the extended pre-poll or early voting option available in Warwick and Stanthorpe due to the coronavirus situation.

There are 25,950 voters on the electoral roll for the SDRC area.

The Electoral Commission of Queensland has extra precautions in place for health safety during voting today.

COVID-19 PRECAUTIONS…

The Electoral Commission of Queensland (ECQ) has issued the following directions about the conduct of voting as a result of COVID-19 –

• Where available, hand sanitiser will be provided for voters and polling officials at early voting centres and polling booths

• Additional cleaning of polling booth areas will be undertaken to ensure that hard surfaces are regularly disinfected

• All people in polling booths should follow social distancing guidelines including maintaining distances of 1.5 metres where possible and avoiding handshakes

• Voters are encouraged to bring their own pen or pencil with them to vote, although pencils will still be available to all voters

THE RESULTS…

• Votes will start being counted when polling stations close at 6pm tonight. Results will be sent to the central tally room at the Warwick Town Hall.
