Federal Maranoa MP David Littleproud says motorists “will drive with more confidence and certainty when seven black spots on Southern Downs’ roads receive upgrades with $506,500 in Black Spot Program funding”.
“Road crashes place major emotional strains on the families and friends of the victims and the wider community,” Mr Littleproud said in a statement.
“It’s a relief to see black spots around Warwick, Amiens, Rosenthal Heights and Freestone getting the attention and necessary upgrades they deserve to make sure we can get around safely.
“None of these upgrades would be delivered without the community’s vital input and I encourage all residents and motorists in the region to nominate projects for future funding rounds.”
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack announced last week Queensland would receive $25.3 million over two years under the latest round of Black Spot Program funding.
“By specifically targeting road locations with a history of crashes for safety upgrades such as lighting, signage, traffic lights and roundabouts, the Black Spot Program reduces crashes causing injury and death at those sites by around 30 per cent,” Mr McCormack said.
Assistant Minister for Road Safety and Freight Transport Scott Buchholz said Maranoa received $606,500 in funding through the 20/21 Black Spot Program.

• Churchill Drive/Park Rd intersection, Warwick: $250,000 for installation of a three leg roundabout
• Pratten St/William St intersection, Warwick: $43,000 for raise media islands, give way signs and linemarking
• Amiens Rd/Minuti Ln intersection, Amiens: $61,000 for installation of a standard T intersection, identification systems, linemarking and signage
• Amiens Rd/Bapaume Rd intersection, Amiens: $26,000 to install linkemarking, identification systems, pavement markers, linemarking, warning signage
• Freestone Creek Rd between Freestone Rd and Coopers Gully Rd, Freestone: $85,000 for installation of warning signs, advisory speed signs and guideposts
• Freestone Rd/Charleys Gully Rd intersection, Freestone: $21,500 for sealing of the Peters Rd access and installation of linemarking and signage on Charleys Gully Rd
• Schoch Rd/Mardon Rd intersection, Rosenthal Heights: $20,000 for installation of medians, raised reflective pavement markers, linemarking on Schoch and Mardon Rd.
