Queensland Health says stage one of work to bring Warwick Hospital up-to-date with new fire safety requirements has been completed.
Warwick Hospital Director of Nursing Anita Bolton said the first stage of the project included completion of fire compartmentation works and setting up a temporary ward on level one of Warwick Hospital.
“We are now progressing into stage two of the project with Phillips Ward relocating into the temporary ward in early December to allow level two to begin fire compartmentation works,” Ms Bolton said.
“There will be clearly visible signage in place throughout Warwick Hospital to provide directions to patients and visitors and while we will try to minimise disturbances, ear plugs will be available.
“We encourage patients and visitors to follow the signage and use the ward lift for access to level one.
“Phillips Ward is expected to be on level one until early February 2020.
“Upon completion of the works the ward will move back to level two.
“The project is expected to be completed by March 2020.”
Ms Bolton said the health service had “worked with Queensland Fire Emergency Services on the project to ensure the hospital was compliant with the latest fire safety standards”.
“All Warwick Hospital buildings were built to conform with legislation at the time of construction and are regularly reviewed to ensure they comply with changes to the building code, and to ensure patient and staff safety is maintained,” Ms Bolton said.
