Greymare campdrafting identity Peter Gesler, 59, died in a light plane crash in the remote South Australian outback at the weekend, along with a female passenger.

The tragedy is understood to have taken place at around 6.30pm on Saturday, 6 July, several hours after the pair flew across Lake Eyre on an aerial tour when their Brumby 610 aircraft crashed into bushland near Leigh Creek airport.

South Australia Police have said the aircraft left William Creek airport on the Oodnadatta Track, around 160 kilometres east of Coober Pedy, at 4pm on Saturday.

The 48 year old female passenger is understood to be from Wynnum in Brisbane’s Bayside area.

Warwick Show and Rodeo Society Campdraft Committee chairman Bill Bright is expected to release a statement later today.

South Australia Police are preparing a report for the state’s coroner.

More to come.
