The Warwick Hospital maternity unit has commenced a new schedule for antenatal classes.

Weekend classes will be held on the first Saturday of every second month. The next Saturday session will be held 1 June from 9am to 3pm.

“The Saturday sessions are going well with a minimum of five couples attending,” Associate Nurse Unit Manager Maternity Services Ross Newton said.

“Group sessions will be held every Tuesday morning from 9am to 11am.

“These sessions will include a guest speaker to address different pregnancy related issues.

“The idea is to have a different guest speaker each week.

“Our guest speakers include a physiotherapist to discuss pelvic floor, a child health nurse to discuss returning home with a newborn and a medical officer to discuss pain relief options during labour.

“These group sessions provide expecting parents the opportunity to ask questions about their pregnancy and birthing journey.

“These sessions are also a great opportunity for mothers to interact with other mothers.”

The next group session will have a child health and alcohol and other drugs guest speaker. This session will be held this Tuesday 14 May. The group sessions are held in conjunction with antenatal clinic appointments.
