Lasting memorial to loved teacher

Staff and students at Freestone State School unveiled a special memorial to a very special teacher last Friday 14 December.

Much-loved supply teacher Bob Baldwin – who passed away earlier this year – has been memorialised at the small country school with a bench depicting farming and rural scenes which were very dear to his heart.

Since retiring from teaching full-time some years back Bob had been fulfilling the supply teacher role at Freestone and other schools in the wider Warwick area where he was a familiar and friendly face to all he came in contact with, even going on school camps and other out-of-school activities.

Bob’s wife Janice Baldwin – herself a full-time teacher at Freestone State School – joined fellow staff and Prep to Year 6 students in an emotional unveiling of the bench, which will be a permanent reminder of a dedicated teacher who was loved and respected by those whom he taught of all ages.

The bench was produced by Wills Projects and Designs in Warwick with funding from the Freestone State School P&C.

Freestone State School will celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2020 – past and present students, parents teachers and community members are invited to assist with planning anniversary events and sharing past stories and memorabilia. Enquiries to Karen Mauch on 0437 635 133 or 4666 1562.
