Tragic farm-related accident

Local thoroughbred industry figure Basil Nolan Jr has died in a farm-related accident overnight.

Mr Nolan is understood to have become trapped in machinery shortly before midnight last night, Tuesday 6 November.

Emergency services attended the scene but Mr Nolan was unable to be revived by paramedics and by others present at the scene of the accident.

Few details have been released as yet by police as to the circumstances of the accident.

Mr Nolan’s family operates Raheen Stud at Gladfield, one of Queensland’s leading thoroughbred nurseries.

A spokeswoman for the Thoroughbred Breeders Queensland Association (TBQA) – of which Mr Nolan’s father Basil Snr is president – said Mr Nolan was a “highly-respected and much-loved figure in the Queensland racing industry” and a “devoted family man and father of four”.

The TBQA is expected to release a statement regarding Mr Nolan’s death later today, Wednesday 7 November.

Basil Nolan Snr is currently overseas and is expected to return home tomorrow.
