Charges laid over drug lab

A 24-year-old man will face drugs and explosives charges in Warwick Magistrates Court later this month following the discovery of an alleged clandestine laboratory in Myrtle Avenue, Warwick.

Police officers from the Major and Organised Crime Squad (MOCS) Rural, Warwick Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) and State Crime Command’s Illicit Laboratory Investigation Team executed a search warrant at the residential dwelling at 8am on Monday, 3 September.

It will be alleged that during a search of the property police located a bedroom which had been used for producing methamphetamine on a number of occasions and over a period of time.

It will be further alleged that a quantity of glassware and chemicals associated with the production of methylamphetamine was also seized for further forensic examination, as well as a quantity of illegal pistols and ammunition.

A 24-year-old man has been charged with 14 drug and weapons related offences including possessing and producing dangerous drugs and unlawful possession of weapons.

He will appear in Warwick Magistrates Court on Monday 24 September.

Senior Constable Jim Doyle of the Major and Organised Crime Squad Rural said this is an example of how MOCS Rural in coordination with local CIB can work to stop crime in the community.

“This collaboration between our squads and local police continues to identify and disrupt people committing offences across the region for a range of criminal offences,” Senior Constable Doyle said.

In further raids on Monday, Warwick CIB arrested and charged a 27-year-old man who was found in possession of 24.5 grams of methamphetamine. The male was also charged with the supply of dangerous drugs and possessing drugs utensils and things.

He is due to appear in the Warwick Magistrates Court on Wednesday 31 October.
