Chance of rain at the weekend

The Southern Downs and Granite Belt could be in line to receive moderate falls of rain this weekend, according to the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM).

The forecast as of today, Wednesday 22 August, is for a 60 to 70 per cent chance of combined falls of up to 30mm across the Warwick and Stanthorpe areas on Saturday and Sunday.

BOM says Friday may see some minor falls across both areas as a weakening high pressure system over south-west Queensland continues to slowly move eastwards.

A slow-moving upper low is forecast to develop through central Australia and move over southern Queensland late in the week, combining with a surface trough through the central-west and Maranoa to increase the chances of showers, patchy rain and thunderstorms over the south-eastern part of the state from Friday through to Sunday.

Temperatures from Friday and over the weekend should be slightly warmer, with an overnight minimum of 3 for Saturday and Sunday, and 3 on Saturday in Stanthorpe and 2 on Sunday.

Tomorrow, Thursday is expected to be minus 4 for Warwick and minus 5 for Stanthorpe.
