Cunningham Highway re-opened

By Jeremy Sollars

The Cunningham Highway at Aratula has re-opened in both directions following an accident involving a truck earlier this afternoon, Monday 2 July.

A man was critically injured after the truck he was driving – believed to be a vintage fire truck – either rolled on him or dragged him for a distance while he was outside the vehicle.

Police believe he was either working on the truck on the roadside, or he may have tried to exit the moving vehicle due to brake failure.

Witnesses are being identified and anyone who saw the incident is asked to get in contact with the police.

The man was flown by rescue helicopter to the Royal Brisbane Hospital where he is in a critical condition with multiple injuries, including “significant leg and pelvic injuries”, according to Queensland Ambulance media.

There were unconfirmed reports earlier that the man had died at the scene.

The accident is understood to have happened around midday.
