Pipe band plays to biggest audience

The Warwick Thistle Pipe Band performed in front of a sell-out crowd of more than 50,000 at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo at Sydney’s ANZ Stadium on Saturday 19 October.

Spokeswoman Pamela Clark-Dickson said band members were “exhilarated to be part of this record-breaking event, which had a cast of over 1500 performers and which was set against a backdrop of a full replica of Edinburgh Castle”.

“The band took a contingent of 50 pipers and drummers to the REMT to participate in the Salute Taker ceremony which opened the Tattoo at both the matinee and the night shows,” Pamela said.

“It was officially the largest band in the opening ceremony of all four of the Tattoo shows, comprising a third of the players in the largest band for the Saturday evening event.

“The Warwick Thistle Pipe Band was extremely proud to represent the Southern Downs at the REMT and has been overwhelmed by the level of support shown by the local community, including the Southern Downs Regional Council, a wide variety of local sponsors, including McDonalds and John Dee and individual supporters.

“Family and friends accompanied the band to Sydney on the tour bus, provided by sponsor Crisps Coaches, which is emblazoned with the band’s Tattoo Express portrait kindly donated by Zooma Signs.”
