Warwick State High School’s 2019 musical will hit the Town Hall stage at the end of May – and will be a particular hit with fans of 90s music.
‘Popstars! The 90s Musical’, by Neil Gooding and Nicholas Christo, features the massive hits of that decade from the likes of Bon Jovi, Britney Spears, Shania Twain, Celine Dion, Wet Wet Wet, Backstreet Boys and the Spice Girls.
The storyline is ‘boy band versus girl band’ – a group of schoolgirls decides to form a girl band in order to win a competition rewarded with a recording contract. Meanwhile, a group of lads also decides to compete for the much-coveted prize.
Auditions were held in the first two weeks of first term and rehearsals kicked off at the end of February. The leads are rehearsing every Wednesday, the full cast on Thursdays and full cast and band on a Sunday.
• The show will be on at the Warwick Town Hall on Thursday 30 and Friday 31 May and Saturday 1 June. For the first time in WSHS musical history tickets are available online now at www.trybooking.com – click on ‘Buy Tickets’ and search ‘Popstars’.
