Christmas Downtown ‘Turning on the Lights’

The Warwick Chamber of Commerce Inc will launch ‘Christmas Downtown’ in the Warwick CBD this Friday 7 December, with a family-friendly street party ‘Turning on the Lights’ at the Warwick Post Office from 6.15pm.

The community event will feature some 60 festively-decorated street trees by local businesses and community organisations along Palmerin Street between Percy and Fitzroy Streets.

The theme for the main street trees this year will be a traditional colour palette of red, green, white, gold or silver and will be on display until Thursday 27 December.

Chamber members Robyn Fraser and Kay Martin have formed a dynamic duo bringing together this creative celebration for the festive season.

Chamber President Julia Keogh said it was a credit to their hard work and the wonderful response from both main street businesses and community organisations to see such a positive outcome for the project.

The Street Party and ‘Turning on the Lights’ in front of the Warwick Post Office festivities will be from 6.15pm to 8pm tomorrow night, with Mayor Tracy Dobie officiating.

Julia Keogh praised Warwick Post Office Manager Jeff Clark’s involvement in the project, with the sandstone Post Office building primed to shine during the month of December.

Several acts will perform including The East Street Singers, The WUPPIES, the Warwick Central State School Combined Choir and the Fern Brothers.

Rotary and Warwick East State School P & C will run a sausage sizzle and food stall on the night, and there will be free face-painting for the kids.

To help with catering purposes, please head to the Warwick Chamber Facebook page to register your attendance at the event.

Entertainment and food will be available from 6.15pm with the official launch at 6.30pm.

We also have a surprise visitor from the North Pole making a special appearance to see the young and young at heart.
