Two charged over teen assault

Two females have been charged over the vicious assault of a 15-year-old Warwick girl in the early hours of yesterday morning.
The victim of the assault remains in an induced coma today in Brisbane’s Princess Alexandra Hospital.
Police have charged an 18-year-old Wilsonton woman and a 16-year-old Warwick girl with assault and both are due to appear in Warwick Magistrates’ Court later today, Wednesday 11 October.
The District Court is sitting in Warwick this week and the Warwick magistrate is currently in Goondiwindi, so the two females will appear before the magistrate via video-link and are both in custody.
A 17-year-old male interviewed by police in relation to the assault has not been charged.
The assault is alleged to have taken place about 2am on Tuesday. A passer-by gave the victim first aid and contacted police.
The girl was taken to Warwick Hospital but by 7am yesterday morning her condition had deteriorated and she was flown to Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane for emergency surgery for severe head injuries, and placed in an induced coma.
Warwick police are expecting to receive an update on her condition later today and say the next 48 to 72 hours will be “critical” in terms of her recovery.
It is understood the victim was walking with a friend from a party some distance away before being set upon.
Police are seeking assistance from anyone who may have witnessed the incident to report the matter to Policelink on 131 444 or the Warwick police station on 4660 4444.
