BREAKING: A 16-year-old Warwick male has been arrested and charged with the theft of a Nissan Patrol from Dragon Street last week, and dumping the vehicle in the Condamine River.
A Warwick police spokesman told the Free Times the alleged offender had been charged today, Tuesday 3 October, and was due to appear in the Toowoomba Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 5 October.
He has been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and entering a premises – namely another vehicle at the property – with the intent to commit an offence.
The Nissan Patrol went missing from the Dragon Street residence sometime overnight on Tuesday 26 September or on the following Wednesday morning, when it was later discovered partially submerged in the river near the Wallace Street bridge.
The 16 year old is facing other criminal charges unrelated to the theft of the Patrol.
The Warwick Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) has again urged residents to secure homes and vehicles.
In the case of the stolen Nissan Patrol, the vehicle was unlocked and the keys were in the ignition.
Police say locals need to be “more vigilant about opportunistic crime” and are “making it too easy” for criminals.
