Couple killed in highway crash

By Jeremy Sollars

Police forensic crash officers are still investigating an accident on the New England Highway north of Allora yesterday morning, Wednesday 30 August, which claimed the life of an elderly couple from Stanthorpe.
The man, 72 and his partner, aged 76, were killed when their northbound vehicle overturned on the highway near Clarke Road in the Spring Creek area, about 8.30am yesterday.
An Allora police spokesman said a number of witnesses had come forward to report the vehicle travelling at excessive speed and overtaking before the crash.
The spokesman said it was possible the couple were reacting to an emergency situation which resulted in excessive speed being used.
The couple’s names are yet to be released but they have been formally identified.
Anyone else who witnessed the accident is asked to contact the Allora police on 4666 3222 or Policelink on 131 444.
