Forum seeks answers on dam progress

Stephen Tancred.

Members of the public are invited to a public seminar this Wednesday 9 August, at 5.45pm at the International Club in Stanthorpe, to learn more about the Emu Swamp Dam Business Case Report recently released by the Southern Downs Regional Council.
The 300-page report was released last week and the consultants who did the report made a public presentation in Stanthorpe on Monday 31 July.
The Stanthorpe Community Reference Panel and the Stanthorpe and Granite Belt Chamber of Commerce have serious concerns with some of the information in the report, and some of the interpretations of the data.
Stephen Tancred, chair of the reference panel, and Ian Henderson, president of the chamber of commerce, will present the information and James Lister, the LNP candidate for the Southern Downs, will chair the meeting.
“I think the public deserves a chance to have the business case explained in more detail as some decisions may be being made on incorrect information and assumptions,” Mr Tancred said.
“The chamber has the progression of Emu Swamp Dam as its main priority,” Mr Henderson said.
“More information on the issue can only help inform the public.
“If the dam is not being pursued by council then residents need to know why.”
Mr Tancred said that Southern Downs Regional Councillors and staff have been invited to the seminar as observers, but as this is not a council event “there is no expectation that they will be required to answer questions, if they do attend”.
