Trial starts for murder accused

Warwick man Vincent O’Dempsey has pleaded not guilty today in a Brisbane court to all charges relating to the disappearance of Brisbane mum Barbara McCulkin and her daughters Vicki and Leanne 43 years ago.
O’Dempsey is facing three charges of murder and one of deprivation of liberty in a trial which began in the Brisbane Supreme Court today, Tuesday 2 May.
The 78 year old O’Dempsey this morning entered pleas of not guilty to the four charges.
A rape charge against O’Dempsey was dropped last December.
Barbara McCulkin was aged 34 when she disappeared, Vicki was 13 and Leanne 11.
The McCulkins disappeared on January 16, 1974 and their bodies have never been found.
The trial is before Justice Peter Applegarth.
