Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove and Lady Cosgrove will be made welcome in the region tomorrow and on Saturday.

The Southern Downs and Granite Belt regions will welcome The Governor-General, His Excellency the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove on Friday and Saturday.
The Governor-General will officially open the 150th Warwick Show tomorrow evening, Friday, after the grand entrance parade, and on Saturday morning will catch up with members of the Warwick Wolves Football Development Academy at a training session at the Wolves’ Queens Park headquarters.
His Excellency and Lady Cosgrove will then travel to Stanthorpe for the official re-opening of the Stanthorpe Civic Centre, followed by a civic reception and commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the Stanthorpe Regional Art Gallery Building.
The vice-regal couple will then officially open Australian Vinegar’s new production plant in Stanthorpe.
Southern Downs Mayor Tracy Dobie said it was “a great privilege to welcome the Queen’s Representative in Australia and Lady Cosgrove to the Southern Downs region”.
“There is much excitement about Their Excellency’s impending visit and our region is most honoured to have the Governor-General officiating at several events,” Cr Dobie said.
“This is a tremendous opportunity to showcase all that is wonderful about our diverse region and to raise the profile of the Southern Downs on the national stage.”
The Stanthorpe Civic Centre was extensively damaged by fire last year.
The re-opening ceremony will begin at 11.30am on Saturday at the Civic Centre at 61 Marsh Street, and will include the unveiling of a commemorative plaque. The public are welcome.
