A public meeting will be held this Sunday 12 March at Pioneer Park at Swanfels to discuss a council survey being circulated about replacement of historic shelter sheds in the park, which the council demolished earlier this year.
As reported in the Free Times, the timber and tin shelters were razed to the ground on Friday January 20 – less than 72 hours after the council announced they were unsafe due to termite damage.
Locals and former Swanfels State School students were stunned at the lack of notice and consultation on the part of the council, with many claiming the shelters could have been repaired and as a community project.
The council is currently circulating a survey asking if locals would favour replacing the shelters with a “simple shed structure” or construction of new a new shelter “similar to the previous building”, or no replacement.
The meeting on Sunday aims to gauge public opinion about the preferred option.
The meeting will be held at Pioneer Park, at 1pm, this Sunday 12 March. BYO seating. For information contact Gary Smith on 0428 615 328.
