Who’s got all the pies?

A special feature at this year’s Allora Heritage Weekend was the Monster Mobile Bakery from Goondiwindi.
The Monster Mobile Bakery will be hitting the roads across Australia, serving delicious pies up at major festivals and events.
Smith’s Pies flavours include meat and vegetable, pepper steak, curry, bacon and cheese, mushy pea and potato top.
The brainchild of father and son team Jim and Dennis Smith, the Monster Mobile Bakery is an impressive set-up, comprising two trucks – one of which is a semi – which can turn out no fewer than 1000 pies an hour.
The Smiths were inspired to create this massive kitchen on wheels after attending a well-known event – which shall remain nameless but was outside our region – where they lined up “for over 45 minutes to receive a measly piece of pizza costing $12”.
Jim was also motivated by the realisation that many city folk have never experienced the pleasure of a freshly baked pie straight out of the oven.
Sherri Smith, partner of Dennis, said the Allora Heritage Weekend was the Monster Mobile Bakery’s “first real test” which other than “a few little hiccups” was a resounding success.
The Free Times sampled the Monster Mobile Bakery’s delicacies at the Allora Heritage Weekend – namely the curry beef variety – and can happily attest to their supreme quality.
Fun facts on the Monster Mobile Bakery’s capability:
* Can produce 1000 freshly baked pies per hour;
* Cooks 800kg of roast at one time;
* Feeds 4000 people without re-stocking;
* Holds four pallets of food stock;
* Has two cold rooms and a freezer built-in; and
* The mobile bakery trailer is 48ft long.
