RUMOURS have also been circulating ahead of the next state election that former Southern Downs Deputy Mayor Ross Bartley could be a contender, which he laughed off heartily when asked by the Free Times this week if he was keen for a tilt.
The former long-standing local councillor runs a family property at Junabee east of Warwick and says he’s more than happy being back on the land full-time and had no interest in another political career.
Mr Bartley – who turns 60 next year – said politics was “a young person’s game” and he was perfectly content these days to be back farming and pursuing his passion for clay target shooting.
“Why would I do that?” he said when asked if he would run for state politics.
“I am happy to be out of politics – it consumes your life.
“Life isn’t a dress rehearsal – these days I get my work done through the week and go shooting on a Sunday, it’s perfect.
“I’m shooting better scores than I ever have.”
