WARWICK charity FoodAssist will be forced to scale back its operation in the New Year as it continues to struggle with finding support.
As reported in the Free Times in late November, the not-for-profit organisation has been helping Warwick and surrounds for the past two years, but a lack of sponsors means it will have to drop back from providing cheap food hampers five days a week to three in January.
FoodAssist operates from a shed on Percy Street and volunteers grow fresh fruit and vegies in the backyard.
Warehouse supervisor Jenny Creed this week said she was still desperate to get in contact with any businesses that would like to sponsor FoodAssist – and they need more volunteers.
“FoodAssist Warwick is reaching out to the community in the hope that by working together we can keep the roof over our heads – no joke,” Jenny told the Free Times in November.
“If things don’t start to pick up, the shed we call home will no longer be ours.
“This shed has given us the opportunity of a lifetime as well as cover and we do not want to leave.
“Please let everyone know that our hampers are available for everyone – no concession card or referral required.”
FoodAssist Warwick is at 38 Percy Street – across from the Stockyard Hotel – and is currently open Monday to Friday from 9am to 3pm, offering $15 and $30 hampers with a variety of fresh and pre-packaged food items.
The charity will close for the year on Christmas Eve and will re-open on Wednesday 4 January – and will operate on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from that point.
Check out the FoodAssist Warwick Facebook page and the current hamper available.
Keep in mind that each hamper can vary, it all depends on the stock available.
FoodAssist Warwick can also deliver for a small fee of $2.50.
