Bodies of elderly couple discovered by police

UPDATE: POLICE have confirmed that the bodies of an elderly couple in their late seventies were discovered by police at a Wattle Avenue residence in Warwick on Saturday night 19 November.
As reported by the Free Times on Sunday the Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) confirmed that the body of a 79-year-old man had been found in the residence on Saturday evening but QAS and police had been unable to confirm that the man’s elderly wife had also been found deceased.
There are no suspicious circumstances behind the deaths, with neighbours telling the Free Times they had held concerns for the couple’s welfare which prompted them to call the Warwick police.
It is understood the bodies may have lain in the residence for up to a week. A neighbour called the police on Saturday after noticing mail had been piling up on the footpath and the couple’s vehicle was in the carport.
Police are believed to have forced entry into the residence early on Saturday evening.
The tragic discovery comes less than two months after the body of an elderly woman was discovered in a Percy Street home on October 11 after having laid deceased for up to six weeks.
Wattle Avenue neighbours have described the couple as “reclusive” and were not aware of any family they may have had locally.
A Warwick Police spokesman said the matter was “still under investigation” and that a report would be prepared for the Queensland Coroner.
He was unable to comment on the likely cause of the couple’s deaths at this time.
Updates to follow.
