Rain is on the way again this week after a hot weekend – Free Times weather commentator Terry West shares his latest forecast for the region …

WE have had a few nice days of warm weather but that is about to change from tomorrow onward. The warmth will stay around but rain and storms should also move into the region.
Today will stay fine and clear as an upper trough enters the north-western parts Queensland, with developing showers and rain to the north.
This will move east during Tuesday and provide an area for a low pressure system to develop through parts of central and southern Australia and extend into the Queensland interior and south-east.
There is a good chance of showers and storms in our region from this low and some of the storms may be severe.
From a stormchaser’s point of view, this is the first real set up of the season and many of the chasers are preparing today for a few big chase days. Some of the more reputable groups are forecasting a chance of severe to super-cell storms developing form tomorrow onwards. It is worth listening to these groups and taking note of their warnings.

Remainder of Monday
Should stay fine and hot with mostly sunny conditions. Winds should be light to moderate from the north-east tending north-west at times.
There is a very slight chance of a storm developing on the ranges late this evening.
Temperature should reach around 31C today.
Fire danger – Very High

Tuesday
Tuesday will remain hot for most of the day. There is a chance of showers from mid-morning with a real chance of thunderstorms developing during the afternoon from lunchtime onwards. Any storms that develop have the potential to be gusty with heavy rain and hail.
Winds should be moderate to gusty from the north-west tending north-east at times. These winds may become stronger around lunchtime.
Temperatures should range from an overnight low of 16C to a high of 33C.

Wednesday
It will be partly cloudy for most of the day with hot gusty winds blowing from the west to north-west for most of the day. There is a chance of showers and storms developing during the afternoon with some storms having the potential to be severe.
