Heroine’s plan pans out

The all-female cast of All's Well That Ends Well in full dress rehearsal mode.

WHAT’S a girl to do when she marries the man she loves only to have him set her an impossible challenge and then march off to fight a foreign war?
You’ll soon find out when Stanthorpe Little Theatre presents ‘All’s Well That Ends Well’ by William Shakespeare on 4, 5 and 6 November under the stars at 7pm sharp each night at Bungawarra Wines, Ballandean.
You’ll be surprised by Helena, possibly Shakespeare’s most resourceful heroine, who will go to any length to get her man.
You will also be surprised by Shakespeare in this rarely performed but astonishingly bold play. Classified as one of his “problem” plays, it is fascinating because it asks difficult, unpleasant questions while offering no easy resolutions.
How many marriages are truly equal, happy and without serious compromise? Does the end justify the means? Is it truly all well if it ends well?
Co-director Christopher Desgrand said in Shakespeare’s day men played both male and female roles, with Stanthorpe Little Theatre turning the tables on all that.
“In a turnabout, we hope the Bard will appreciate, this is our first Shakespeare play with an all-female cast and the ladies bring a distinctive interpretation to the lines,” he said.
Come along and see an “unknown” Shakespeare, one where you don’t know what happens next and where fate is not written in the stars, but in the hands of an ordinary girl with a plan.
Tickets are available at Gracious Giving, 34 Maryland Street, Stanthorpe on 4681 4700, or from Bungawarra Wines at Bents Road, Ballandean, on 4684 1128.
